He also served as President and Chief Operating Officer for Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corporation following the merger between Esmark and Wheel-Pitt in 2007. Tom's career includes senior management and operations posts with U.S. Steel Corp., as well as with a rapid growth family business that was ultimately sold to a Fortune 500 company. Tom served on the boards of Mountain State Carbon LLC, Wheeling Nisshin Inc, Ohio Coatings Company, Great Western Steel, and Wheeling Specialty Processing. Tom joined Esmark in 2003 and was instrumental in assembling a team that made Esmark's first acquisition, Electric Coating Technologies, a phenomenal success.
Tom's experience encompasses new plant start-up, business plan development, workforce management, and labor relations in both union and non-union environments. While with U.S. Steel, Tom was President of Double Eagle Steel Coating Company, a joint venture of U.S. Steel and Rouge Steel (now Severstal), where he spent 10 years successfully launching and eventually running the largest and most automated coating line in the world. At Double Eagle, Tom invented a device to improve current transfer in a radial cell, and was awarded a U.S. Patent (#5,609,767).
Tom's vast experience, along with his knowledge of large business discipline and the entrepreneurial spirit that drives smaller companies, has been an invaluable asset to Esmark.
Tom holds a B.A. degree in Mathematics from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
